Boutier, Maguire Set to Represent Europe at Solheim Cup


ANDALUCIA, Spain – With the 2023 edition of the Solheim Cup set to commence Friday at Finca Corstein in Spain, Duke women’s golf graduates Celine Boutier and Leona Maguire will represent Europe on one of the biggest stages of golf.  

Duke women’s golf will be represented at the Solheim Cup for the eighth straight event and the Blue Devil duo will team-up together on the Europe side for the second straight time Sept. 22-24.  

It marks the third straight appearance for Boutier, while Maguire competes for the second consecutive event.  Both Duke golfers have been impressive in the Solheim Cup, winning 10 points out of a possible 12 over three events.  

Boutier, who made her Solheim Cup debut in 2019, is a two-time winner and has won 5.5 points in her seven matches at the previous two editions.

A 2016 Blue Devil graduate, Boutier has turned in an impressive year on the LPGA with three victories, including her first major win at the Evian Championship this summer.  She currently leads the Race to the CME Globe and is second in the Rolex Player of the Year race.  Boutier has won $2,185,557 over 17 events in 2023.  

After an outstanding rookie performance in Toledo in 2021 where she earned 4.5 points out of five, Maguire returns to represent Team Europe.

Maguire, a 2018 Duke graduate, has featured a solid 2023 season on the LPGA as well, with one victory and five top-10 finishes, while earning $1,058,736.  She won her second career LPGA event in June at the Meijer LPGA Classic with a 21-under-par score.  

Action will get started Friday and Saturday with foursomes in the morning and fourball in the afternoon both days.  On Sunday, play will conclude with singles matches.  

Fans looking to watch the Solheim Cup can find the opening ceremonies from 11:30-1:30 p.m., Thursday on Golf Channel and Peacock.  On Friday and Saturday, from 2 a.m., to 1 p.m., the action will be on Golf Channel and Peacock.  The final day will be aired on Golf Channel and NBC Digital from 5-11 a.m.

Other Duke golfers who have competed in the Solheim Cup include Boutier (2019, 2021), Maguire (2021 and Brittany Lang (2017, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2009).
