Sophomore Inez Ng birdied three of her last four holes to shoot 69 and fifth-year senior Kayla Smith made seven birdies over the final 12 holes to finish with a 70 Saturday to lead the University of North Carolina to a tie for fourth place after the second round of the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt’s Legends Course in Franklin, Tenn.
The Tar Heels posted a 5-under-par 283 total Saturday to tie LSU for fourth place in the 18-team field at 11 under par. Auburn continues to lead at 20-under 556. The host Commodores are second at 18 under and Ole Miss is third is 15 under.
Ng (71-69) is tied for 11th place in the individual standings at 4-under 140.
Freshman Reagan Southerland followed her opening-round 69 with an even-par 72 and is tied with teammate Crista Izuzquiza (70-72) for 21st at 2-under 142.
Smith (73-70) is 1-under and sophomore Megan Streicher (72-72) is even par.
Ole Miss’s Andrea Lignell has the individual lead at 10-under 134 after a second-round 68. She has a two-stroke advantage over three players.
The final round is Sunday.
