Michigan State Completes First Day at Windon Memorial


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team shot a 2-over par 570 over two rounds during the first day of play at the Windon Memorial Classic, being played at Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, Ill.

The Spartans shot a 3-over par 287 in the first round and came back with a 1-under par 283 in the second round and are in 14th place among 15 teams in the field.

Purdue leads the field at 31-under par 537, with East Tennessee second at 24-under par 544, Indiana and Northwestern tied for third place at 22-under par 546 and Little Rock rounds out the top-five teams at 21-under par 547.

Freshman Lorenzo Pinili leads the Spartans, standing in a tie for 29th place at 3-under par 139 (69-70). Pinili fired a 2-under par 69 in the opening round and posted a 1-under par 70 in the second.

Junior Ashton McCulloch and senior Bradley Smithson are tied for 66th place with scores of 2-over par 144. McCulloch posted consecutive rounds of 1-over par 71, respectively, while Smithson shot a 4-over par 75 in the opening round and bounced back with a 2-under par 69.

Senior August Meekhof shot a 4-over par 146 (71-75), opening with an even-par 71 before closing with a 4-over par 75 in the afternoon session.

Junior Satchel Pierce is tied for 83rd place at 7-over par 149 (77-72).

The two-day, 54-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 26, with the Spartans teeing off at 10:21 a.m. (ET) on hole 10, playing alongside Wisconsin and Memphis.
