USC Men's Golf Places Ninth at William H. Tucker Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–The USC men’s golf team wrapped up its final round of the William H. Tucker Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 26) at the Championship Course at UNM Golf Courses in Albuquerque, NM. The group finished at a combined 2-under which slotted them in 9th out of the 20 teams competing over the last two days. Tournament host New Mexico took home the trophy with a final score of 29-under leading 2nd place Texas Tech by 3 strokes. 

Jackson Rivera led the team today with birdie on four consecutive holes early on his front nine and two more later in the round. He finished the day in a 3-under 69 which put him in a tie for 24th. Rivera, who has been battling injury for the last three months, led the field in par-3 scoring this week. 

Rivera commented on his return to the tournament atmosphere, saying “Personally, I was pleased overall with my scoring. It was my first tournament back in about three months so I was just pleased to be able to compete and be in there and want to be able to build on that and be ready for the next event.”

Freshman Nico Dominguez showed up with a strong performance posting a 2-under score of 70 and coming in at a tie for 58th after a tough day yesterday.

Finishing in a tie for 24th with his teammate Jackson Rivera was sophomore Antonio Safa, who led the team in scoring yesterday, carrying over his strong form from the first tournament in Washington. His day was relatively steady as he finished in a 2-over 74, after a tough final hole. 

Safa mentioned how the team has been progressing over the last couple weeks, commenting “I think as a team, there was a lot of improvement from the last event, everyone has been working really hard, and I think we can see the team trending in a positive way. We’re all really excited for the next event, and personally I think the team is going to play great in the next event.”

Sam Lape fought hard throughout the day carding a 1-over 73 putting him in a tie for 37th overall. Teammate Krando Nishiba finished at 3-over 75 in a tie for 65th.

The Trojans rebounded well after a shaky start to the season and showed a lot of grit throughout the last two days. Coach Hankins continues to…
