The Vols shot 6-under as a team Friday with each player shooting even-par or better. The Big Orange enter round two tied with Texas A&M and are one stroke behind Wake Forest.
Tennessee was led by the duo of Bryce Lewis and Caleb Surratt, who shot 2-under 70s in round one.
Lewis’ opening-round scorecard featured a hole-out eagle on the par-4 hole four.
Surratt registered five total birdies on day one, with four of them coming on the front nine.
Redshirt senior Jake Hall and redshirt sophomore Lance Simpson gave UT its final counting rounds on Friday after shooting a pair of 1-under 70s. They sit just outside the top 25 and are tied for 26th place ahead of the second round.
Hall posted a bogey-free front nine with two birdies while Simpson notched five birdies in the first round.
Tennessee’s final lineup member, Evan Woosley-Reed, shot an even-par 72 on Friday. The Shelbyville, Tennessee, native was 1-over going into the final hole and then went on to clutch a birdie on the 18th hole and is tied for 37th place ahead of Saturday’s round.
