Gators Close Fall with Third Consecutive Victory, Filler Wins Second Straight

WEST POINT, Miss. – The Florida women’s golf team and Maisie Filler couldn’t ask for a better way to close out the fall season on Wednesday. Filler won back-to-back individual titles and the Gators claimed its third consecutive team title at Old Waverly Golf Club.

UF teed off round three with a six shot lead after jumping into first in round two and cruised to a 11 shot victory. Florida shot the lowest round of the day with a 285 (-3) to total 54-hole team score of 863 (-1). Each tournament the Gators have increased its victory by strokes; 6-8-11.

The victory is the 31st all-time under head coach Emily Glaser; 32nd total as she was an assistant coach for a season in 2011-12. Florida last won three events in a season in 2015-16 and is the fifth occurrence under Glaser. It marks the most team titles since the 2019-20 season when the Gators last won by double-digits at the Allstate Sugar Bowl by 13.

Fresh off her first collegiate win last week, Filler did it again. She became the 13th player in program history to win two events in a season with the last being Maria Torres in 2017. The senior started the Gators final round push behind four consecutive birdies on holes 3-6. She made eight birdies today to total the tournament-leading 16.

The Palm Beach Gardens, Florida native shot a final round of 66 (-6) for her team-best eighth under par round this season and fifth out six career rounds in the 60s at Old Waverly. Filler ended under-par for three of the four fall events. Her last three events she placed 1-1-T2.

It was a duo of true freshmen, Inès Archer and Sophie Stevens, shot solid rounds of 72 (E) and capped off a strong fall slate. Archer finished 4th for her top-20 finish with two 17th place outings in the last fall tournaments. She holed-out for eagle on 14 (par-4, 354) to finish 2-under overall.

Stevens was in the lineup for all four fall tournaments and secured her third top-15 performance in a tie for 10th. Her other finishes were T15 in the season opener and T7. The Highland, Michigan native averaged 2.83 on par-3s this week.

Jackie Lucena recorded her third consecutive top-25, placing T17. Two strokes back from her was fellow senior Marina Escobar (individual) in T26. Annabell Fuller finished T54.

Florida will begin the spring season at Therese Hession Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif from Feb. 4-6.
