Duke Moves Up at The Hayt as Evans Goes Low

SAWGRASS, Fla. – Duke men’s golf improved its standing on the team leaderboard during the second round at The Hayt with a 1-under, 287, on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Ethan Evans continued his strong play, tying for the best individual round on the course with a 4-under, 68, and is just one shot off of the individual lead heading into the final round.

HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND TWO

• Duke was one of just two teams, joined by North Carolina, to shoot under-par in the second round with its 1-under, 287.
• The Blue Devils moved up five spots on the leaderboard and are in sixth place heading into the final round.
• Ethan Evans entered the second round in a tie for 15th and fired a 4-under, 68, to move into a tie for third place, just one shot off the lead, heading into his third round. Evans started the second round with a bogey on the par-5 10th but shifted momentum with three consecutive birdies on holes No. 16, 17 and 18, making the turn at 2-under. Back-to-back bogeys on the first two holes of the front-nine slowed his progress but the Mercer Island, Wash., native closed his round strong with a birdie on the par-4 seventh and an eagle on the par-5 eighth.
• William Love also signed for an under-par second round with his 1-under, 71, on Sunday. A double-bogey on the 10th got his round off to a slow start, but the sophomore bounced back with a birdie on No. 16 and an eagle on No. 18 to get into red figures. Two birdies on the front-nine offset a double-bogey to cap off his 1-under round.
• Luke Sample was 1-over, 73, during the second round. Sample poured in four birdies throughout the round, including back-to-back birdies on two of his closing holes, the par-4 seventh and par-5 eighth. Sample only dropped shots on four holes throughout his round and finished out his round with 10 pars.
• The final two Blue Devils, Bryan Kim and Ian Siebers, each registered a 3-over, 75, in the second round. Kim made 14 pars and one birdie, on No. 8, while Siebers used three birdies across his round to help bounce back from five over-par holes.
