TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior Tiger Christensen’s second win of the season at last week’s Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate earned his second Pac-12 Golfer of the Week award of the year, the conference announced on Tuesday. Christensen won the individual title by two strokes over teammate Tianyi Xiong and helped power the Wildcats to an impressive 21-stroke victory as a team.
With his final round score of 65, Christensen carded the third-lowest round of his Arizona career after shooting a pair of 64’s earlier this season. He is the 12th Wildcat to win the individual crown at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate and the first since Brad Reeves and Christian Banke won back-to-back in 2021 and 2022. The Hamburg, Germany native sat in a tie for fourth place at 3-under par entering the final round before securing the win with a 7-under showing in Tuesday’s finale. Christensen caught fire on the back nine, sinking five consecutive birdies on holes 10 through 14.
Last week’s win of the individual crown marked his second victory of the 2023-24 season after winning the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in October. The fall win also saw Christensen break the program’s 54-hole scoring record with a 19-under par performance. The junior also became the first Arizona golfer since Brad Reeves in 2020-21 to win multiple individual titles in a season.
With four top-10 finishes already posted this year, Christensen and the Wildcats will look to keep the winning momentum going into their next tournament. Arizona will be part of the field at Thunderbird Collegiate, hosted by Arizona State. The Sun Devil’s home tournament will begin on Friday, April 12 at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix.
