Fouillet Ties For 13th Place To Lead Cal
PULLMAN, Wash. – Three Golden Bears ended Sunday’s opening round at the Pac-12 Championships at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in the top 20 individually, led by California women’s golf freshman Constance Fouillet who tied for 13th place with a 2-over-par 74.
Ending the day one stroke behind Fouillet were sophomores Adora Liu and Olivia Lee, both of whom carded a 3-over 75 to tie for 17th place. As a team, the Bears shot 18-over 306, ending the day in 11th place and nine strokes out of the top three.
Led by a strong start from Lee, the Bears had a solid showing on the front nine. After putting away birdies on holes 2 and 7, Lee reached the midway point of the round with one of the best scores in the field at 2-under par.
Cal didn’t have as much success on the back nine, despite an even-par 36 from Fouillet over the last nine holes. Fouillet’s day was highlighted by a birdie on hole 10. Senior Cristina Ochoa converted a rare eagle on hole 15.
The Bears will look to make up ground over the final two rounds, something they’ve made a habit of doing all season long. Cal will tee off on hole 10 tomorrow beginning at 10:10 a.m. PT.
