Women's Golf Selected for NCAA Regionals in Albuquerque

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Women’s Golf was selected as part of the field of Albuquerque Regional for NCAA postseason play on Wednesday, extending the program’s NCAA Regional streak to 29 consecutive seasons. The Wildcats will be the fourth seed in Albuquerque, New Mexico when regional play begins on Monday, May 9 at the Championship Course at UNM.

“We are excited to be a part of the Albuquerque Regional at a course that we have experience at,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “Our young ladies work and compete so hard throughout the entire year to reach NCAA Regionals, and I am proud to see our team reach this goal again. We’ve seen every type of course and weather thrown at us this year, and I feel it prepared us for the challenges of the postseason.”

The 2022 edition of NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals will be the first of a new format as the number of regional sites expanded from four to six. The addition of sites means the top-four teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona in late May.

The fourth-seeded Cats are joined by Oregon, Florida and Texas atop the Albuquerque Regional seeding with Georgia, TCU, Louisville, North Texas, Oklahoma, Sam Houston State, Northern Arizona and New Mexico State rounding out the field.

The Wildcats last played the Championship Course at UNM a season ago in New Mexico’s annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. Ya Chun Chang, Gile Bite Starkute and Maya Benita, returners on this year’s roster, participated in the Lobos’ home tournament.

Arizona has played in tournaments at the University of New Mexico’s home course on three occasions since the 2016-17 season as well as NCAA Regionals in 1994 and 2005.
