Jin Shoots 2-Under In Final Round
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Cal women’s golf team wrapped up the 2021-22 season Wednesday with a 10th place finish at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
The Bears once again improved on their team score for the second straight day, shooting 18-over par to finish at +64 for the tournament. Cal was three shots out of ninth place.
Baylor won the Stillwater Regional championship at 1-over par and advanced to the NCAA Championship along with Arizona State (+15), Oklahoma State (+17) and Auburn (+17).
Sophomore Mika Jin finished off a strong performance at her first NCAA Regional with a 2-under 70 on Wednesday to place in a tie for 16th individually at 5-over par for the tournament. Jin had the seventh-best individual score during the final round and her 3-under score over the final two rounds was tied for third.
Sophomore Cristina Ochoa shot 2-over par for the second straight day and finished in a tie for 24th overall at 9-over par.
Only four golfers in the 60-player field broke par for the tournament. Oklahoma State’s Maddison Hinson-Tolchard won the regional at 4-under par.
The Bears were making their 21st NCAA regional appearance in the past 22 seasons.
Jin, who led Cal in scoring average this season and Ochoa, who had a strong spring season, both return next season, along with juniors Tzu-Yi Chang, Jasmine Lew and Kristine Tran and freshman Jieming Yang. The Bears will lose seniors Katherine Zhu, Elena Arias and Eun Soo Jeon.
The Bears also welcome a strong recruiting class to Berkeley in the fall with the arrival of Olivia Lee and Anna Molloy of Gerrards Cross, England as well as Adora Liu of Fremont.
