SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A grind of a day for the entire field of the 2022 NCAA Championships saw Arizona Men’s Golf falter with a 26-over day to fall to 21st place at 32-over par after the first two rounds. Graduate senior Christian Banke carded Arizona’s best round on Saturday at 4-over par.
“Today was a challenging day for our team, and we unfortunately did not rise to the occasion,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “It was a hot, windy afternoon for us, but we got away from our game plan and the success from our first round. It’s definitely a disappointing feeling, but we have another round of golf to focus on and get back on track.”
The Wildcats are part of a 14-team pack of teams in the middle of the leaderboards that are separated by ten strokes. Sunday’s third round is moving day as the top 15 teams in the standings after the round will advance to the fourth and final round of stroke play on Monday.
Arizona’s top individual after the first two days of the NCAA Championships is junior Chaz Aurilia who is in a tie for 45th at 6-over par.
Part of the later wave of tee times on Sunday, the Wildcats will go off the 10th hole at 11:42 a.m. and play alongside Wake Forest and Florida State.
