Tony Finau What's In The Bag? - The American Big Hitter

Tony Finau What’s In The Bag?

What apparel and equipment does Tony Finau use out on tour? We take a look here. The American was a Nike staffer up until the company announced that they would no longer make golf equipment in August 2016, and was a free agent for a while before signing with Ping.

Starting at the top of the bag he uses a Ping G425 LST driver (opens in new tab)which has only seven degrees of loft. It is the low-spin version of the G425 range. The Mitsubishi Diamana D+ Limited 70 TX shaft is tipped 1.5 inches, and the driver has a swingweight of D-6. It also measures at 45 inches which is quite long although given he is roughly six foot four inches, this should come as no surprise.

He then decides to use a slightly older model as his three-wood, the Ping G400 Stretch. This has 12.5 degrees of loft. We have seen that a lot of professionals opt for older models in the fairway wood slot in the bag because it is such a difficult club to get right in terms of comfort, trust and performance. Clearly Finau has not really wavered away from the Stretch either which shows how much he wants to keep it in his setup.

Irons

His longest iron in the bag is also the only Nike club that remains, a Nike Vapor Fly Pro three-iron. It has a Graphite Design shaft and was also the moel that Brooks Koepka had in his bag for a long time as well. He then has a set of the Ping Blueprint (opens in new tab) irons as well which go from four-iron down to pitching wedge. The Blueprint irons are one of the best-looking and feeling bladed irons on the market. Admittedly for us amateurs they are extremely difficult to hit consistently but the top players like Finau will enjoy the feel, control and manoeuvrability on offer here.
