Tech reveals 2022-23 men's golf schedule


BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team has released its 2022-23 schedule as announced by fourth-year coach Brian SharpThe 2022-23 campaign includes 10 regular-season tournaments with four hosted by ACC counterparts.

The Hokies return five upperclassmen, headlined by senior Daniel Azallion who holds a 72.67 career scoring average which ranks seventh all-time in Tech history. Kobe Valociek returns for his third year in the program following a strong sophomore campaign bolstered by a 9-under 201 posted at the Old Town Collegiate last fall.

Tech begins the fall with back-to-back tournaments hosted by ACC foes beginning with the Fighting Irish Classic (Sept. 4-5) hosted by Notre Dame. The Hokies will then travel to Durham, North Carolina to take part in Duke’s Rod Myers Invitational for the second consecutive year on Sept. 9-10.

Sharp and company will then return as tournament regulars to ETSU’s Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (Oct. 9-11), and wrap up the fall season at the Furman Intercollegiate (Oct. 22-23) for the first time since 2019.

Entering the spring portion of the schedule, the Hokies compete in the Battle at Briar’s Creek (Feb. 6-7) after weather conditions caused its cancellation in 2021. Next, Tech tees off at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club for the Watersound Intercollegiate (Feb. 17-19). The squad finished third at this event last season, carding a 4-under 860.

The Hokies then head to South Carolina for two tournaments beginning with the Palmetto Intercollegiate (March 6-7), followed by The Hootie at Bulls Bay hosted by South Carolina, March 26-28.

Tech continues its southern road trip in Augusta, Georgia with the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, Apr. 1-2, held at Forest Hills Golf Club. The Hokies conclude their regular season at the Lewis Chitengwa Invitational (Apr. 10-11) in Charlottesville, Virginia.

For the first time in conference history, the ACC Men’s Golf Championship will be played at the Country Club of North Carolina. The four-day tournament will take place in Pinehurst, North Carolina and will consist of three rounds of stroke play, with the top four teams advancing to match play to determine the ACC champion.

The NCAA regional round is May 15-17, with the NCAA Championship being held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 26-31.
