UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – USC’s success at the U.S. Women’s Amateur didn’t miss a beat Tuesday, Aug. 9, as sophomore Amari Avery fired a six-under-par 67 to finish in the top-five, while junior Brianna Navarrosa carded a three-over par 76 to finish in the top-35 after the second round of stroke play at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.
Avery and Navarrosa have both advanced to the round of 64, the first round of match play. The Golf Channel will broadcast match play live Wednesday 3-6 p.m. PT, with tee times set to be posted later tonight. The Channel will have coverage through the championship match Sunday.
Avery, who teed off in the early afternoon, carded a six-under-par 67 to wedge herself among some of the top talent in the nation, tied for fourth. The California native finished her 36 holes at seven-under par 139 after rounds of one-under 72 and the six-under 67.
Navarrosa finished the second round of stroke play tied for 34th, carding a three-over-par 76. The junior’s first round included five birdies for a two-under-par 71.
Trojan freshman Catherine Park was also in the hunt to make the cut but fell short during the second round with a four-over 77.
