Sienkiewicz Paces Wildcats On Final Day of Maui Jim

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Senior Chase Sienkiewicz carded Arizona’s lowest round for a second consecutive day, shooting a final round 68 on Sunday at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. Sienkiewicz’s 2-under round of 68 on Sunday followed a 5-under performance on Saturday, which tied his career-best round of 65. Arizona was 2-under as a team on Sunday to end the tournament in ninth place at 21-under par.

“We weren’t able to completely capitalize on our momentum from the first two rounds on Sunday, but it does not discount the numerous rounds of good golf posted by our lineup this week,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We had a successful week as a hole as our upperclassmen all carded some of the best rounds of their career while our underclassmen showed an abundance of growth in our first event of the season. This week in Scottsdale will prove to be a great foundation of development for our team moving forward this season.”

Arizona finished the event with three players in the top 25 of the individual leaderboards, led by Sienkiewicz who finished in a tie for 21st at 6-under par after posting rounds of 71, 65 and 68. Chaz Aurilia and Sam Sommerhauser each tied for 24th and 5-under par.

The Wildcats will return to action later this week, participating in the Fighting Illini Invitational for a second consecutive season. Hosted by the University of Illinois, the Cats will tee off on Friday, Sept. 16 at Olympia Fields Country Club.
