TEE OFF

The Florida women’s golf team heads takes a trip up to Chicago for the Windy Ctiy Classic starting Monday. 

TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The outing will mark the seventh appearance at the tournament as Florida last finished third last year behind Jackie Lucena’s runner-up finish. Lucena turned in her second round under par (-1) in round three as she started the day with a birdie on 10 to end with 13 total. She battled Stanford’s Rose Zhang and Texas’ Bohyun Park for individual honors throughout the final day, only finishing one stroke behind Zhang (-4). For four straight appearances, UF has placed top-4 overall at the Windy City Classic. 

LAST TIME OUT

Maisie Filler finished runner-up to lead the Gators to a fourth place finish at the “Mo” Morial. Her runner-up performance is the second of her career after she finished runner-up at The Ally last fall behind tying second all-time in program history for low individual tournament at 203 (-13). She did not post a round over par throughout the event and battled back and forth with Kayla Smith (North Carolina) for the individual lead. Filler at one point was 10-under overall and ended 8-under with a score of 208, for eighth-best in program history. 

A SEASON AGO

Last season, the Gators started the fall off with four top-3 finishes, including a runner-up to finish to end the season that featured Maisie Filler writing her name int he record book. Filler posted all three rounds in the 60’s – 69, 66 and 68. After setting her career low in round two, she tied second all-time in program history for low individual tournament at 203 (-13). The last Gator to record the mark was Camila Hedberg in 2012 at the Cougar Classic. Filler was one stroke away from the program record (202) set by current pro Sam Wagner in 2016.

The Gators started spring on a strong note with a program record 29-under to win the team title at the FAU Paradise Invitational. Florida rode the momentum into defending its home course at the VyStar Credit Union Gators Invitational for the 25th time and seventh straight.  

Into postseason play, Florida finished runner-up at the SEC Championship in Birmingham. The Gators…
