Hackett Tied for Fourth Place, Michigan State Tied for Ninth at Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational


East Lansing, Mich. – Drew Hackett is tied for fourth place individually and Michigan State’s men’s golf team is tied for ninth place among 16 teams at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational, being played at Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla.

The 16-team field, playing on the par-72, 7,4760 yard course, went through two rounds on Sunday and will conclude with 18 holes on Monday.

North Florida fired a 28-under par 548 (275-273) and leads the field by one shot. Notre Dame is in second place (27-under par 549), Missouri is third at 26-under par 550, Liberty is in fourth place (23-under par 553) and South Florida rounds out the top-five teams at 18-under par 558.

Day One Results

The Spartans carded an 11-under par 277 in the first round and was tied for third place, but followed back with a 2-under par 286 to stand in a tied for ninth place with Toledo at 13-under par 563.

Senior Drew Hackett leads the Spartans at 8-under par 136 and is tied for fourth place, just six shots off the lead. He fired a 5-under par 67 in the first round and followed that with a 3-under par 69 in the second round.

Junior August Meekhof is tied for 43rd place at 2-under par 142, posting a 4-under par 68 and a 2-over par 74, respectively.

Sophomore Ashton McCulloch is tied for 51st place at 1-under par 143 (70-73) and senior Bradley Smithson is tied for 54th place at even par 144 (72-72).

Fifth year Troy Taylor II is tied for 70th place at 3-over par 147 (75-72).

The Spartans tee off at 8 a.m. on Monday, playing alongside Toledo, Indiana and Memphis.
