Spartans Tied for Sixth Place at Tar Heel Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – Lightness and darkness suspended play in the second round and Michigan State’s women’s golf team is tied for sixth place among 14 teams at the Tar Heel Invitational, being played at the Governor’s Club in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The second round will finish at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and teams will immediately star the third, and final, round.

Kentucky (No. 39 in the country) was leading the field at 4-under par with three holes to play, with Wake Forest (No. 1) two shots back in second place. Host North Carolina was in third place 1-over par 577, with Louisville in fourth place at 5-over par 581 and Michigan rounding out the top-five at 6-over par 582.

Michigan State is tied for sixth place with Virginia Tech at 7-over par 583. The Spartans shot a 1-over par 289 in the opening round and, unofficially, were at 6-over par 294 in the second round.

Fifth year Valery Plata, who won the Tar Heel Invitational in 2019, was leading the Spartans at 3-udner par. She fired a 5-under par 67 in the first round and has three holes to play in the second round.

Junior Valentina Rossi is tied for 13th place at 1-under par. She was even-par 72 in the first round and had carded a 1-under par through 17 holes before play was suspended.

Sophomore Shannon Kennedy shot a 6-over par 150 and is tied for 43rd place. She posted rounds of 4-over par 76 and a 2-over par 74, respectively.

Sophomore Brooke Biermann was also tied for 43rd place at 6-over par. She posted a 3-over par 75 in the first round and was at 3-over par with three holes left.

Freshman Paula Balanzategui posted an 8-over par 152 and is tied for 53rd place.
