Women’s Golf in Eighth Place at The Landfall Tradition


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team shot a 1-over par 289 and is in eighth place among 18 teams after the first round of play at The Landfall Tradition, being played at the Country Club of Landfall’s Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C.

The three-day event, which includes 17 teams ranked among the top-60 in the country by Golfstat, continues on Saturday and concludes with 18 holes on Sunday. The Landfall Tradition is being played on the par-72, 6,150-yard rolling layout along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway near Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina.

San Jose State (No. 9 in the country) leads the field at 10-under par 278, with No. 2 Wake Forest in second place at 9-under par 279 and Florida State (No. 18) in third at 7-under par 281. UCF is in fourth place at 4-under par 284 and NC State rounds out the top-five teams at 3-under par 285.

Michigan State is just four shots out of the top-five at 1-over par 289, with South Carolina and Michigan tied for sixth place at 2-under par 286.

Fifth year Valery Plata and junior Valentina Rossi lead the Spartans, standing in a tie for 12th place after rounds of 2-under par 70, respectively.

Junior Leila Raines is one shot back, tied for 21st place at 1-under par 71.

Sophomore Brooke Biermann shot a 6-over par 78 and is tied for 77th place and classmate Katie Lue is tied for 82nd place at 7-over par 79.

Michigan State will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, playing alongside Michigan and Tennessee.
