GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina’s David Ford has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month for October.
In three October tournaments, Ford had a win in the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at Seminole Golf Club, a tie for second in the Williams Cup at Eagle Point Golf Club and a tie for sixth at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club. Ford helped lead UNC to wins in three straight tournaments for the first time since 1984-85.
A sophomore from Peachtree Corners, Georgia, Ford averaged 68.89 and shot at or below par in all nine rounds, including six rounds under par and three in the 60s. He won his first collegiate event at the Stephens Cup, shooting 16-under 200 to win by four strokes. He fired a bogey-free 10-under-par 62 in the second round of the Stephens Cup, tying the UNC record for score relative to par in a round. He made eight consecutive birdies en route to the 62, which tied his career low round.
