COWAN FULL OF CONFIDENCE HEADING INTO ARAMCO TEAM SERIES – JEDDAH

Olivia Cowan

Last time out on the Ladies European Tour (LET), Olivia Cowan clinched her maiden title with victory at the Hero Women’s Indian Open.

Having come close previously and with no less than 27 top-10 finishes on the LET, the German player finally entered the winner’s circle in India.

And now the newly-crowned LET winner returns to Royal Greens Golf & Country Club for the Aramco Team Series – Jeddah, where she finished as runner-up in 2021.

“I enjoy playing this course,” she said. “I play quite well around here. I feel quite confident coming here and coming off a win as well, I think it gives you that little bit extra confidence. I’m looking forward to playing this week.

“It was only two weeks ago that I won, and I was obviously waiting a long time for this win. I came close a few times and had to take some knock-backs, but I think you learn from them. I wouldn’t say so I feel pressure.

“I had a good week in India, I came out on top, but this is a new week, and anything can happen. There are great players here, and all I want to do is just continue what I did in India and have fun playing golf. If I end up at the top in the end, that’s great.”

The Aramco Team Series – Jeddah will see an individual 54-hole stroke play tournament take place alongside a 36-hole Team event with each tournament having a prize pool of USD $500,000.

In the penultimate event of the LET season, Cowan will tee it up at 7.03am local time on Thursday alongside her captain’s pick Cara Gainer of England and the duo will also be joined by England’s Rachael Goodall.

Back in March, the German finished T17 at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International and is looking forward to taking on the challenge of Royal Greens once again.

She continued: “I really love playing it. It’s challenging and fun to play here. Also being a Team event as well, it’s a bit more relaxing. I love coming back here and am looking forward to getting the week going.

“I think you need to stick to your game plan. You need to know where to place your ball and when it gets windy, maybe not get too greedy and just think about what the smartest decision would be and just stick with that.

“I really enjoy coming to these events. It’s different to every other event we play. There is an individual event this week, as well but it is fun. Some of us can pick our friends, it’s nice to play with them and enjoy it a bit more. It is nice to also have other people that are willing you on to play…
