Men's Golf Signs Cary's Hampton Roberts

Hampton Roberts, a senior at Panther Creek High School in Cary, N.C., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of North Carolina and play on the men’s golf team, Tar Heel head coach Andrew DiBitetto announced today.

Roberts, who resides in Cary, is the son of Abby and Lee Roberts. He will enroll at UNC in January 2023.

In 2021, he won the North Carolina Junior Boys Championship, holing out his second shot on the par-5 16th hole to win the title. He also was runner-up in 2021 at the Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational and finished in the top 32 in the U.S. Junior Amateur. He placed eighth in the 2022 Beth Daniel Junior Azalea and has additional top-10 finishes the last two seasons in the Southern Junior, Carolina’s Junior, Hope Valley Junior Invitational, North and South Junior, The Elite Invitational and North Carolina Amateur Match Play.

“We are thrilled to add Hampton to our Carolina Golf family,” says DiBitetto. “He will be an excellent addition to our group. Hampton is another young man with high character who is relentless in his pursuit to be great, both on and off the golf course. He is determined to have success at the highest level and help us bring championships to Chapel Hill. We can’t wait to get started with Hampton next semester.”

Roberts has been active in community service as well, helping to raise nearly $10,000 through the AJGA Leadership Links program for the Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation.

“I chose to become a Tar Heel because I wanted to become a part of an incredible program that has the best players and coaches in the country,” says Roberts, who Golfweek ranks the No. 2 player in the state. “I believe this program is where I will develop the most as a person and as a player.”
