BOULDER — University of Colorado freshman Morgan Miller won the 90th Doherty Women’s Amateur Championship earlier this month at the Coral Ridge Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., highlighting a busy mid-season break for the women’s golf team.

Miller, a native of Cedar Park, Texas, defeated Ina Kim-Schaad of New York, N.Y., 2 & 1 to take the match play title on Jan. 13.

Qualifying as the third seed, Miller cruised to a pair of 5&4 wins over No. 14 Noelle Maertz in the first round and No. 11 seed and University of Iowa senior Lea Zeitler in the quarterfinals. Miller had a tighter match in the semifinals, edging Ashley Zagers 3&2.

Miller adds her name to a list of former Doherty winners that includes LPGA Tour professionals Lexi Thompson and Alexa Pano and World Golf Hall of Famers Babe Zaharias and Marlene Stewart-Streit.

Miller, who played in 14 rounds during the fall season for the Buffaloes, also competed in the Women’s Orlando International Amateur Championship, Jan. 4-6, and tied for 47th with a 54-hole total of 222.
