Women’s Golf Wraps Up Opening Round of Spring Season

GUADALAJARA, Mexico. – The Ole Miss women’s golf team opened its spring campaign with the first 27 holes of action at the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club on Sunday, ending the day tied for eighth at 26-over par.

The Rebels got off to a slow start in Guadalajara coming off of the team’s winter break, with the team ending the opening round of play with a score of 309 (+21) to sit 10th on the team leaderboard. The team was able to find its footing in round two to jump up into a tie for eighth place, with the Rebels ending the day ranked second in par-3 scoring (E) as a team.

Chiara Tamburlini led the charge of the Rebels, ending her opening day from Mexico 3-over and in 15th place overall. Despite a slow start from the St. Gallen, Switzerland, native, the senior opened her second round of play with three birdies over nine holes to help jump back up into the top 20.

Tamburlini will look to extend her streak of 15 straight top 20 finishes on Monday, a streak which dates all the way back to the 2021 NCAA Championships.

The senior duo of Ellen Hume and Andrea Lignell sit further down the leaderboard with each golfer settling in at seven-over and eight-over par, respectively. Hume will enter Monday’s final round of action in a tie for 31st place, while Lignell sits a stroke behind her in a tie for 38th.

Ellen Hutchinson-Kay and Elle Johnson round out the Rebel lineup in Guadalajara, with Hutchinson-Kay’s score of 117 (+9) on the day giving her a share of 43rd. Hutchinson-Kay ends the day tied for first amongst the field in par-3 scoring (-2), while her four birdies tie her with Tamburlini for the second-most individually in the field.

Johnson sits narrowly behind Hutchinson-Kay on the leaderboard at 11-over par and tied for 51st.

The Rebels will be right back in action tomorrow morning for the final 27 holes of play at Guadalajara Country Club. Ole Miss will tee off of Hole 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT.
