Women’s Golf Rallies to Finish 6th at Tulane Classic


NEW ORLEANS, La. (February 14, 2023) – Rutgers women’s golf opened the spring season in strong fashion, rallying up the leaderboard to finish in 6th place out of 18 teams in the Tulane Classic presented by Chad Brownstein. 

 

After the team sat in 14th place following the first round, the Scarlet Knights shot up to 9th place after round two, firing a 297. RU came home with another strong round, posting a 306 to move up another three spots and finish in 6th place overall.

 

“I’m proud of the way we finished the tournament. We knew today’s round was going to be more difficult with higher winds, but the team stayed patient and managed themselves well,” head coach Kari Williams said. “Leigha had a great tournament to earn a finish in the top-5. Maeve and Lu putted well to post good scores and move us up the leaderboard and help us finish the event strong.”

With her T5 finish, Leigha Devine posted her third top-5 finish of the season in just her fifth event. She was consistent in all three rounds of play, posting an 8-over 224 by shooting 75-74-75 on the tournament. She finished the event with eight birdied, including seven in the final two rounds. 

After a first-round 82, Maeve Rossi kicked things into gear to finish T17 with a final score of 13-over 229 (82-72-75). Rossi matched Devine with eight birdies on the tournament and seven in the final two rounds. 

Lucrezia Rossettin played all three rounds under 80 to post a 16-over 232 (77-79-76) and finish T3….
