MELBOURNE, Fla. – Alabama’s Sarah Edwards carded a round of 5-under par 67 to lead the women’s golf team in the second round of the Moon Golf Invitational Monday. As a team, the Crimson Tide will enter Tuesday’s third and final round in 15th overall with a team total of 586 (289-297).
Edwards shined on the day in route to shooting the second-lowest round of her career. As a result, she is in a tie for eighth overall with a 36-hole total of 139 (72-67).
Starting on the 10th hole, Edwards finished at 1-under par thanks to birdies on the last two holes of her front nine. She continued the hot streak with a bogeyless back nine that included birdies on four of her first six holes to earn her team-leading fourth round in the 60s this season.
Tuesday’s final round will tee off 8 a.m. CT (9 a.m. ET) on the par 72, 6,362-yard Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla. The Tide will be paired alongside Augusta, Louisville and Virginia Tech.
Second Round Highlights
- In all, Sarah Edwards collected seven birdies and just two bogeys in her round that included six birdies across an eight-hole span that resulted in the lowest round by any player this spring
- Edwards’ two-day total of 5-under 139 is the second-lowest 36-hole score of her career (133 which came last fall at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah)
- Emilie Øverås, who carded a 3-under 69 to lead UA in the opening round, is in a tie for 50th overall with a 1-over par 145 (69-76)
- Benedetta Moresco is in a tie for 62nd overall at 3-over 147 (71-76)
- Both Kynadie Adams (77-78) and Taylor Kehoe (77-78) finished the day in a tie for 88th with identical scores of 155
Team Tournament Highlights
- After 36 holes, 11 teams in the field currently sit at par or better
- The 17-team field features 13 teams ranked in the nation’s top 50
- Sarah Edwards leads all individuals in par 4 scoring at 3.70 (-6) through two rounds
