Women's Golf ends first day of play at The Show in Las Vegas


LAS VEGAS – Freshman Lily McCauley paced the Washington State women’s golf team through the first two rounds at The Show at Spanish Trail Country Club, as the Olympia, Washington native sits in a tie for 33rd on the player leaderboard after carding 4-over 14.

McCauley, who made her WSU debut last weekend at the San Diego Classic, posted rounds of 74-74 through her first 36 holes of play at The Show to end the day tied for 33rd. The freshman is currently tied for fifth on par-3 scoring, as she is shooting even par on par 3 holes. McCauley collected three birdies during the tournament’s first round, then add two more in the afternoon’s second round.

Washington State concluded the first day at The Show in a tie with North Florida for 14th on the team leaderboard, as the Cougars posted a team score of 605 (+29) after two rounds of play. WSU opened the tournament at 14-over 302 in the first round, then followed up at 15-over 303 in the second round.

Fellow freshman Emiko Sverduk also sits in the top 40 on the player leaderboard after two rounds of play at The Show. Sverduk opened her day at 5-over 77 in the first round but had an impressive showing in her second go-around at the Spanish Trail Country Club, shooting even par 72 to end the day in a tie for 40th.

Mississippi State sits in first place after two rounds of play at The Show. The Bulldogs carded 7-under 569 at the conclusion of the tournament’s first day. MSU heads into Tuesday’s third round with a one-stroke lead over host UNLV. Denver’s Anna Zanusso and New Mexico’s Myah McDonald are each tied for first place on the player leaderboard, as each golfer shot 6-under 138 during the first two rounds.

The final round of The Show will take place this Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Spanish Trail Country Club. Teams will begin play with an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start. Fans can follow all the action at GolfStat.com.
