The Nebraska men’s golf team returns to action as they travel to Scottsdale, Ariz. for the Desert Mountain Collegiate March 4-5.
The tournament will tee off at 9:00 a.m. (CT) on Saturday with a shotgun start. Teams will complete 36 holes on Saturday before wrapping up with 18 more on Sunday. The teams will be playing at the Outlaw Course in Desert Mountain and its Par-72, 7,107-yard layout.
16 teams are set to compete in Scottsdale. Nebraska is joined by Big Ten foe Michigan, who hosts the tournament. No. 22 Mississippi State and No.42 Little Rock check in as the only two ranked teams in the field. USC, DePaul, Miami (OH), UConn, New Mexico State, Central Michigan, Santa Clara, Illinois State, UTEP, Louisiana-Monroe, Lipscomb, and South Dakota State round out the participating teams.
Nebraska competed in the Desert Mountain Collegiate a year ago, finishing fourth place and two strokes off the team title in their best performance in spring 2022. Will Marshall, who will golf out of the No. 1 spot in the Husker lineup in this year’s tournament, finished tied for 46th, carding a 228 (+12). He is also coming off a strong performance at The Prestige in Palm Springs, Calif. Feb. 20-22, where he finished tied for 47th, buoyed by a third-round 71 (E).
Marshall is joined by Jeremy Sisson atop the Husker lineup. Sisson has also competed in every event for the Huskers this season, holding a 73.93 stroke average through 14 rounds in 2022-23.
Grant Jabenis is making his third lineup appearance this season for the Big Red following a career-high third place finish at The Prestige Individual tournament in Indio, Calif. Feb. 20-22. Jabenis also tied his career-low round twice, with two 71 (E) scores and will look to carry his momentum into Arizona.
Reed Malleck (Jr., York, Neb.) will golf out of the No. 5 spot in the Nebraska lineup after finishing The Prestige with a 54-hole score of 236 (+23).
Rounding out the Husker contingent in Scottsdale is true freshman Evan McDermott. McDermott is making his fourth straight lineup appearance for Nebraska. The native of Spring Lake, Mich., carries a 74.90 stroke average through 11 rounds into this weekends action.
