AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Alabama women’s golf team is in ninth place after the opening 36 holes of the Valspar Augusta Invitational. The Crimson Tide finished the opening day of play with a team score of 15-over 591 (310-281).

Two UA golfers ended day one among the top-30 individuals to lead Alabama in the event. Sarah Edwards finished at one-over par 145 (77-68) and is tied for 14th place, while Benedetta Moresco is in a tie for 30th at 3-over 147 (xxxxx.

The two-day, 54-hole event is being played at the par 72, 6,244-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., located just three miles from the infamous Augusta National Golf Club.

Day One Highlights

  • Alabama’s second round 281 was its second-lowest team score of the entire 2022-23 season
  • The Tide began without any start breaking par in round one, but responded with four of the five UA golfers carding below-par scores
  • The Tide’s starting five combined for 7 birdies throughout the first round and 19 birdies throughout the second round, including seven each from Sarah Edwards and Benedetta Moresco
  • Sarah Edwards’ second round was highlighted by an eagle on the 461-yard par 5 ninth hole to earn her 12th round of par or better on the year
  • Moresco finished with five birdies in the second round, with all five coming in her first six holes
  • Kynadie Adams and Emilie Øverås both carded rounds 2-under par 70 in round two
  • Adams finished the day in a tie for the 38th position at 5-over 149 (79-70), while Øverås finished tied for the 44th position at 6-over par 150 (80-70)
  • Isabella van der Biest rounds out the starting lineup in 75th with a 162
  • Competing as an individual in the event, Taylor Kehoe finished the day tied for 38th place at 5-over 149 (71-78) and carded three birdies across the opening round of play

Tournament Highlights

  • No. 2 Wake Forest (-13) owns a nine-stroke lead on tournament host Augusta (-2) entering the final round of play
  • No. 12 Florida State (-1), No. 18 Ole Miss (+12) and No. 21 Florida (+1) round out the top five teams of the event
  • The Tide ranks tied for fourth with 26 birdies as a team
