Women’s Golf Tied for Fourth Through Day One at Augusta Invitational


AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Ole Miss women’s golf team got underway at the Valspar Augusta Invitational on Saturday, compiling a two-round score of 577 (+1) to sit tied for fourth heading into Sunday’s final round.

The Rebels ended the opening day of play from Augusta with a total of 25 total birdies as a team, along with a combined 122 pars. The team also ended the day ranking first amongst all teams in par-5 scoring (-9).

Senior Chiara Tamburlini paced the Rebels on the day, starting her tournament off with a round of 69 (-3) and later carding a 70 (-2) in round two to finish 5-under heading into Sunday. Tamburlini will enter the final round of action in Augusta tied for third overall.

The St. Gallen, Switzerland, native logged a team-best nine birdies over Saturday’s two rounds of action, ranking third amongst all golfers in attendance. Tamburlini also ranks second amongst all golfers in par-3 scoring, currently shooting 2-under on those holes.

Natacha Host Husted also put together a strong start to her weekend for the Rebels, ending the opening day of the Valspar Augusta Invitational tied for 14th with a scorecard of 145 (+1) through two rounds. Host Husted went par or better on 33 of her 36 holes played on the day, including making a tournament-leading 31 pars.

A pair of Rebels will enter Sunday’s finale from Augusta in a tie for 34th, as freshman Nicole Gal and senior Elle Johnson both finished day one shooting a two-round total of 148 (+4).

Gal, who is playing in just her third collegiate tournament for Ole Miss, is aiming to improve upon her previous career-best finish from The Ally in the fall where she ended up finishing 25th. The Oakville, Ontario, native has already set a new career-low round of 72 (E) while in Georgia.

Johnson also is chasing a new career-best finish while with the Rebels, having earned a 27th place finish in her Rebel debut at the Cougar Classic. Johnson’s career-best finish while attending Florida State was a 16th place finish at the 2020 Golfweek Sandestin Amateur.

Senior Andrea Lignell capped off the day for the Rebels by golfing a 151 (+7) to put her into a tie for 49th. Fellow senior Ellen Hume, who is playing as an individual in Augusta, sits just two strokes behind her in a tie for 57th.

The final round of play from Forest Hills Golf Club is set to begin tomorrow with an 8 a.m. CT…
