Alabama Women’s Golf in Fifth after Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Opening Round


ATHENS, Ga. – Two golfers carded rounds of par or better to lead the Alabama women’s golf team in the opening round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The Crimson Tide ended day one of the three-day 54-hole tournament in fifth overall with a team score of 6-over 294.

The event is being contested at the par 72, 6,327-yard University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga. and features a 15-team field with 10 squads ranked in the nation’s top 50, according to Golfstat.com.

Round One Highlights

  • Benedetta Moresco leads the Tide after the first 18 holes of play with a 1-under par 71
  • Moresco will enter the second round in a tie for eighth after earning her 10th round of par or better this year
  • Earning her seventh round of par or lower, Kynadie Adams is in a tie for 13th position after carding an even par round of 72
  • Emilie Øverås is in 36th position with a 3-over par 75 followed closely by Isabella van der Biest who carding a 4-over 76 to end the day in 46th overall
  • Taylor Kehoe rounds out the Tide’s starting lineup in 66th with a 6-over 78
  • The Tide’s starting five collected 15 birdies throughout the first round, including five from Benedetta Morsco and four from Isabella van der Biest
  • Adams is tied for second in par 5 scoring (-2, 4.50)

Tournament Highlights

  • No. 10 Auburn (-11) owns the clubhouse lead and is the only team to score under par in round one, leading No. 21 Florida (E) by 11 strokes
  • No. 19 Virginia (+1) is in third and is a stroke ahead of No. 4 South Carolina (+2)
  • No. 29 Georgia (+6), tied with Alabama, rounds out the top five teams of the event
  • As a team, the Crimson Tide is tied for second in par 3 scoring (+4, 3.20)

  • Alabama will begin the second round of play Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. CT on holes Nos. 6-10
