Izuzquiza Ties Career Low After Three Straight Birdies On Final Holes

Crista Izuzquiza birdied the final three holes to tie her career low round with a 69 and lead the University of North Carolina three spots up the leaderboard after the second round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Saturday at the UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga.

Behind Izuzquiza’s 69, a 1-under 71 by Megan Streicher and an even-par performance by Krista Junkkari the Tar Heels shot even par today to improve from seventh place to a tie for fourth.

Auburn is 13 under after 36 holes to lead South Carolina by 11 strokes heading into Sunday’s final round. Florida is third at 5 over and the Tar Heels are tied with Purdue for fourth place at 7-over 583.

Izuzquiza, a junior from Madrid, Spain, shot her third career 69 and second in her last three rounds. She was 1 over through 11 holes, but birdied five of the last seven holes, including the par-3 16th and back-to-back par 5s to finish the day.

Streicher, a freshman from South Africa, had three birdies and only two bogeys to shoot 71, her fifth round below par in the last three tournaments.

Eliza Sinz of Auburn is the individual leader at 5-under 139, one stroke better than South Carolina’s Louise Rydqvist.

Streicher is ninth at 1-under 143 and Izuzquiza is tied for 10th at even-par 144. Kayla Smith (71-76) is tied for 22nd at 3-over 147.
