Women’s Golf Sits Third Heading into Finale of Clemson Invite


CLEMSON, S.C. – The Ole Miss women’s golf team continued their strong weekend at the Clemson Invitational on Saturday, with the Rebels logging their second straight day below par to sit third overall with one round remaining in the tournament.

The team has found strong play throughout their entire lineup to remain just four strokes back from the tournament lead, as the Rebels currently sit at a two-day score of 573 (-3) on the weekend. The Rebels are being fueled by a performance that sees the team ranking second in total birdies (30) and total pars (122) amongst all teams in attendance.

Senior Andrea Lignell leapt up the leaderboard for the Rebel squad on Saturday, carding the team’s best round of the weekend with a bogey-free 69 (-3) to have her up into sixth place heading into Sunday. Lignell has now finished par or better on 34 of her 36 holes golfed this weekend, tallying five birdies along the way.

Lignell continues to build upon her program record for rounds in the 60s in a single season, with the Gothenburg, Sweden, native now sitting at 10 rounds in the 60s for the 2022-23 season. She currently ranks second in program history in career rounds in the 60s at 17, just three rounds shy of tying Julia Johnson’s record of 20.

Elle Johnson would also finish her second round below par for the Rebels, carding a round of 71 (-1) to move up into a tie for 12th place at one-under on the weekend. Johnson will be aiming to improve upon her current Ole Miss career-high finish of 27th, which came at The Ally during the fall season.

Joining Johnson in a tie for 12th place is freshman Nicole Gal, as the Oakville, Ontario, native continues to have a career weekend at the Reserve at Lake Keowee Course. Gal, who currently leads the field in total birdies with 11 on the weekend so far, finished Saturday’s second round shooting a 73 (+1).

Chiara Tamburlini is on the outside looking in on what could be her seventh Top 20 finish of the season, as the senior currently holds a share of 21st place with a two-day score of 145 (+1).
