SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – No. 5 Stanford men’s golf, led by three golfers in the top seven, shot a 7-under 273 on Thursday to jump out to an 18-hole lead at the 53rd Goodwin. The event is being played at TPC Harding Park, as the Cardinal will host the Pac-12 Championships at Stanford Golf Course at the end of April (28-30). Stanford leads No. 13 Oklahoma by two shots and No. 6 Georgia Tech by four after the first round. 

Senior Barclay Brown is tied for first after an opening-round, 4-under 66. The South Yorkshire, England native tallied six birdies on the day, firing identical 33s on each side of the course.

Brown is joined inside the top seven by Karl Vilips (tied for third) and Michael Thorbjornsen (tied for seventh). Vilips shot a 3-under 67, aided by three straight birdies from holes No. 15-17. Thorbjornsen totaled a 2-under 68, finishing with 11 pars and a birdie over his final 12 holes. 

Freshman Anton Ouyang, playing as an individual, shot a 1-over 71 to lead the trio of individuals. 

The Cardinal tees off No. 10 on Friday morning, with the individuals teeing off beginning at 7:29 a.m. PT and the team starting at 8:05 a.m. PT.
