Men’s Golf Leads After Two Rounds in Arizona

The Missouri men’s golf team heads into Tuesday’s final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic with one-shot lead after recording an 11-under 565 during the first 36 holes of play Monday.

The Tigers were one of only two schools to finish under par in both rounds on Monday to lead the 21-team field. Mizzou was fifth after the first 18 holes of action with a nine-under 279. As the conditions toughened during the second round, Mizzou responded with a two-under 286, gaining eight shots on first-round leader now second-place Kansas for a one-shot edge into the final round.

Three Tigers are in the top 10 after 36 holes of play, led by junior Jack Lundin and freshman Antonio Safa. Both players finished five under and are tied for third of 116 golfers in Arizona. Lundin got off to a hot start, recording six birdies in an eight-hole stretch, as he carded an opening round of 67 before an even-par 72 in the second round. Safa started with a three-under 69 in the first 18 holes of action before finishing a two-under 70 to match Lundin with a 139.

Freshman Alfons Bondesson is just a shot behind his teammates and is eighth overall at four-under par. The rookie started strong with an eagle on his first hole of the day and carded a 70 in both rounds as he aims for his third-straight top-10 finish.

Seniors Charlie Crockett and DJ Springer rounded out the day for MU, placing 52nd at +3 and 79th at +7, respectively.

Overall, Missouri is first at -11 and is followed by Kansas (-10), Pacific (-5), Wyoming (-4) and UNLV (-4) in the team standings.

The Tigers now aim for their second title of the season with a 9:30 a.m. CT shotgun start on Tuesday.
