WEST POINT, Miss. – The Tennessee men’s golf team captured its program-record-tying third team title of the season at the Mossy Oak Collegiate on Tuesday—coming out on top of an 18-team field that featured five other SEC teams.
The Vols’ 40-under performance in Mississippi marked the program’s fourth-best 54-hole score in relation to par. Additionally, the team’s round three score of 13-under was the best in the field by seven strokes.
The team title marked Tennessee’s eighth under the direction of head coach Brennan Webb and the second time during the Webb era in which the Vols have won three team titles during the same season (2018-19).
True freshman Caleb Surratt was UT’s highest finisher for the fourth time this season after placing tied for sixth in the 100-player field, marking the first time in his career to log consecutive top-10 finishes. Surratt built upon his first-round momentum to shoot a 1-under 71 in round two and 3-under 69 in round three to shoot 10-under overall.
Just one stroke back of Surratt was Laurent Desmarchais who shot a career-low 9-under 54-hole score to place tied for 11th. The sophomore shot all three rounds under par, including a round two 70 and career-best 67 in round three.
Bryce Lewis shot a 4-under 68 in round two and ended the final round with a 1-over 73 to shoot 7-under overall and tie for 17th place. With Lewis’ round two under-par score he is now tied with former teammate and VFL Hunter Wolcott for third place in program history of career rounds of par or better with 64.
Tennessee’s final player in the top-25 was redshirt junior Jake Hall who shot a 75 in round two and bounced back with a 69 in the final round to shoot 6-under for the event. Hall placed tied for 21st and registered a consecutive top-25 finish for the second time this season.
Freshman Josh Hill bounced back from his round one score to fire a pair of contributing 70s in rounds two and three to finish at 2-under and tied for 45th.
