Gators Advance to SEC Championship Quarterfinals

Florida makes match play for the second straight season and will face Texas A&M tomorrow.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida women’s golf team advanced to the SEC Championship Quarterfinals on Friday with a sixth-place finish in the stroke play portion of the first postseason leg.

The Gators made the match play cut for the second straight season and the fourth time since the format was added in 2018. Florida earned the 6th seed and will face No. 3 Texas A&M at 8 a.m., who made match play for the first time in program history.

Last year, the Gators were the 5th seed and defeated the reigning National Champions at the time, Ole Miss, 3-2 for its first-ever win in the quarterfinals. UF then responded with a 3-2 victory in the semifinals against No. 1 Auburn, the defending conference champions.

After playing in rainy and tough conditions yesterday at Greystone Golf and Country Club, the Gators climbed from 8th to make the cut by five shots with solid finishes on the final three holes.

Annabell Fuller led Florida on the final day with a 1-under 71 round for her best finish at the SEC Championship in T15. She went -3 on the front and after back-to-back bogeys on 14 and 15, she went par-par-par to close out.

Also recording a career-best finish in the conference tournament was Marina Escobar at T4. In her three outings at SECs, she has improved every year: T25 (2021) and T12 (2022).

The duo of Maisie Filler and Jackie Lucena combined with Fuller after bogeys on 15 to wrap up the final three holes with consecutive pars to maintain a spot into match play. Lucena tied for 28th with Filler a stroke back in T30th followed by freshman Karoline Tuttle at T62.

If the Gators defeat the Aggies tomorrow, they will take on the winner of No. 2 Auburn and No. 7 South Carolina.
