Men’s Golf | April 28, 2023

STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomore Jackson Rivera and freshman Mahanth Chirravuri carded first-round 69s while a trio of Trojans posted par efforts in the second round to lead the USC men’s golf team during the 36-hole first day of the 2023 Pac-12 Men’s Golf Championship at Stanford (Calif.) G.C. on Friday (April 28).

The Trojans, combined, finished the first two rounds tenth place at ten-over, 710 (356-354) in the six-play, five-count format. Arizona State at 24-under, 676 (331-345) is the leader after the first day followed by Colorado at 20-under, 680 (344-336). Seven of the 12 teams currently sit under par, and USC trails Utah for ninth place, as the Utes posted a nine-over two round stint, 709 (361-348). Currently, in the last place spot is UCLA at 14-over, 714 (366-348).

Rivera and Chirravuri are tied for 34th at 1-over 141 with matching rounds of 69 and 72.

Rivera turned in a rollercoaster first round, going out at 2-over and coming home at 3-under with five back-half birdies against a double bogey on 14. Two late second round birdies helped his cause again.

Chirravuri also finished the first round strong, sinking birdies on three of his final five holes before following with his 72

Senior Parker Sisk entered the Pac-12 Championship with a season low of par 70, a score he carded in USC’s last event at the Western Intercollegiate. He matched the effort Friday, only a miscue on 18 costing him a sub-par round. He is tied for 47th at 4-over 144 (74-70).

Senior Jack Boulger recovered from a double on nine to post a par second round and is also tied with Sisk at 47th, as is sophomore Gavin Aurilia following a 71 and a 74.

Junior Krando Nishiba is tied for 59th at 5-over 175 (75-70), his second round including a pari of par nines.

The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday, with the Nishiba starting it off for the Trojans at 11:12 a.m. and Rivera teeing off last for USC at 12:12 p.m.
