ATHENS, GA – The Maryland women’s golf team closed its 2022-23 campaign with a top-10 performance at the NCAA Regionals.

Senior Angela Garvin of Feeding Hills, Mass, in her final tournament as a Maryland Terrapin, posted a total three-day score of 214 (71-72-71) to finish in a two-way tie for seventh on Wednesday.

Garvin, who is set to graduate later this month with a degree in Business Management with a minor in Spanish, led the sixth-seeded Terrapins all three days, finishing the tournament at two under par overall for the tournament. In Wednesday’s final round, she posted a nearly blemish-free scorecard with just one bogey on the 10th hole and a pair of birdies on the 7th and 17th holes on the University of Georgia Golf Course.

Garvin’s 214 is the best individual showing at an NCAA Regional since Virunpat Olankitkunchai shot a 214 in 2019.

As a team, the Terps scored a three-day total of 888 (+24), missing qualifying as a team by just three shots and finishing in seventh place.

THE TEAM

Freshman Nicha Kanpai, ranked 86th nationally, finished in two-way for 31st after posting 224 (74-74-76), at eight over par in her first NCAA Regionals appearance.

Junior Patricie Mackova, ranked No. 28 nationally, posted a total of 225 (76-73-76), at nine over par in a four-way tie for 33rd.

Senior Maria Vittoria Corbi posted a total of 226 (74-76-76), which was 10 over par, in a three-way tie for 37th. Corbi will return to College Park in the fall for a fifth year with the program.

Sophomore Panassaya Somchit posted a total of 239 (81-75-83), which was 23 over par to finish in a two-way tie for 57th.

HOVLAND’S ANALYSIS

“I am disappointed in the outcome but proud of the fight they showed, head coach Kelly Hovland. “We dug ourselves a hole early in the round, and despite a one-under back nine, we couldn’t get back inside the cut line.”

On Angela Garvin’s Performance: “Angela carried us today and had a gutsy performance to keep us in the hunt. She played her final round as a Terp with so much Maryland Pride, and I will forever be grateful for what she has done for our program!”

 REGIONALS INFO

The tournament consisted of 54 holes of play (Monday-Wedsneday). The field played from 6,347 yards at the University of Georgia Golf Course, hosted by the University of Georgia, on the Robert Trent Jones, Sr. layout.
