Rees Jones unveils Broken Sound Club remodel in Boca Raton, Florida

Rees Jones may be in his 80s, but that has not slowed him down from adding to his portfolio of more than 260 projects. The renowned golf course architect recently showed the world his latest project: renovation work at Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton, Florida.

The Old Course at Broken Sound Club is a favorite stop on the PGA TOUR Champions TimberTech Championship and host of the Jim McLean Junior Championship.

The project aimed to advance sustainability, improve playing conditions and replace infrastructure. At the forefront of sustainability initiatives, the course is the first golf facility in Florida, second in the U.S. and 14th in the world to be GEO Certified.

The par-72 Old Course has been reimagined to give players more options on how to play each hole and suit their game. In addition, the classic style bunkers are easier to access. Different strains of Bermuda grass were used on the different surface areas, from the tees to the fairways to the greens. The redesigned Old Course finds variety in the details by challenging players of all skill levels.

Bryce Swanson worked on the project with Jones, creating a classic design style while employing modern technology. These attributes will enable players to continuously enjoy a compelling game that will provide a new challenge every day. The Club’s design committee and golf course designers wanted to give the community a course that will stand the test of time and challenge the conventional ideal of South Florida golf courses.
