MARICOPA, Ariz. – (May 20, 2023) Washington State men’s golf juniors Preston Bebich and Jaden Cantafio each conclude the second round of the inaugural National Golf Invitational in a tie for 11th on the player leaderboard, as each Cougar golfer has carded 2-under 142 through 36 holes of play.
Cantafio posted his second consecutive under-par round at the NGI, as he shot 1-under 71 for the second-straight day. The Tustin, California native caught fire over his final four holes of play, as he collected three birdies to help him end the day at 1-under par. Additionally, Bebich ended his second go-around at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes carding 1-over 73. Both Bebich and Cantafio enter Sunday’s finale in a tie for 11th, as he holds a two-day score of 142 (-2).
As a team, Washington State shot 10-over 298 in the second round of the National Golf Invitational. The Cougars will head into the third round of the NGI in ninth place with a 36-hole score over 5-over 581.
Texas State shot 8-under in the second round to take a four-stroke lead over Wyoming into Sunday’s championship round, as the Bobcats sit at 11-under 565. Wyoming’s Tyler Severin maintained his lead on the player leaderboard at the end of play on Saturday, as he has carded 9-under 135 through the tournament’s first two rounds.
The third and final round of the National Golf Invitational will take place this Sunday, May 21, at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. Teams will open play at 7:30 a.m. PT. Washington State will tee off between 7:30-8:06 a.m.PT. Fans can follow all of the action via live results at GolfStat.com.
