ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan men’s golf head coach Zach Barlow announced Tuesday (June 6) the addition of Caden Pinckes to the incoming freshman class following his National Letter of Intent signing. Pinckes joins Jason Gordon, who signed during the early November NLI period.

“Caden brings an elite resume with him,” said Barlow. “Throughout his prep and junior career, he has shown a level of competitiveness and that ‘refuse to lose’ mentality which will fit perfectly into the culture and program we are striving to create. Matt (Hoffman) and I look forward to him getting to Ann Arbor and making an impact.”

A two-time All-CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) second team member (2022, ’23), Pinckes had a standout prep career at Classical Academy High School. With a pair of CIFSDS Division II runner-up finishes (2021, ’23), Pinckes was instrumental in helping CAHS capture the 2022 CIFSDS Division II title and advance to the CIF SoCal Championship. With a fourth-place finish, the Caiman’s just missed advancing to the CIF State Finals.

Pacing Classical Academy to a 17-7 dual match record over his final two seasons, as a senior Pinckes posted six of his 15 matches under par while carrying a 37.6 average. As a junior, he averaged 36.6 in nine matches.

He highlighted his junior career qualifying for the 2022 U.S. Junior Amateur at Bandon Dunes. With a 138 (-5; 68-70) qualifying total, he tied for eighth in stroke play to earn the No. 8 seed for match play. Following a 4-and-3 win over No. 57-seed Omar Khalid Hussain and a 2-and-1 victory against No. 25-seed Shubham Jaglan, Pinckes moved on to the Sweet 16 facing his Classical Academy teammate, and neighbor, Luke Potter. Battling the Oregon winds, Pinckes was eliminated, falling to Potter, 7-and-5.

With the American Junior Golf Association, Pinckes showcased his 2023 season tying for 10th (77-74-75/226) at the Sergio & Angela Garcia Foundation Junior Championship as well as tying for 12th (70-71-71/212, -4) at the PING Heather Farr Classic. In 2022, he tied for fourth at the Memorial Junior (72-74-69/215, -1) and tied for 13th at the PING An Bank Junior Championship (75-73-75/223).
