GREENSBORO, N.C. — Five Clemson University men’s golfers, Zack Gordon (Gaffney, S.C./Gaffney), Thomas Higgins (Roscommon, Ireland/CBS Roscommon), Jonathan Nielsen (Copenhagen, Denmark/Birkerød Gymnasium), Andrew Swanson (Bluffton, S.C./May River) and Alberto Dominguez (Sanlucar De Barrameda, Spain/Universal School) were named to the 2023 ACC All-Academic Team.
Five marks a record for men’s golf. The Tigers previously had four in 2013, 2016 and 2017. It’s the third selection for Gordon in his career.
Academic requirements for selection to the team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must have competed in 50 percent of their team’s contests and/or the ACC Championships and/or the NCAA Championships during the most recent season.
Swanson led the team in stroke average (71.39) and finished with two top-10 finishes, including medalist honors at the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii. Swanson shot an 18-under-par 195 over three rounds to claim the individual victory.
His third-round score of 63 was a season-low for the sophomore. He finished the season with nine rounds in the 60’s.
Swanson concluded the season with a 14th-place finish at the ACC Championshp and a 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Salem Regional. Over the course of the season, he added six top-15 finishes.
He finished eighth at the Linger Longer Invitational after carding a one-under-par 215 and also finished eighth at the NCAA Salem Regional after an 11-under-par 205.
Gordon added two top-15 finishes in 2022-23 and finished with a stroke average of 73.10. He completed four rounds in the 60’s with a best round of 68 last season.
Nielsen finished with a stroke average of 71.87 during his first season in Clemson. He added six rounds in the 60’s and shot a season-best 67 at the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii. Nielsen added one top 10 finish and four top-20 finishes.
A freshman, Higgins completed his first season with a 73.61 stroke average and one round in the 60’s. He shot a 69 in the third round at the Linger Longer Invitational. He also finished sixth at the Thomas Sharkey Intercollegiate.
Dominguez also finished his first season at Clemson with a 73.94 stroke average. He totaled two rounds in the 60’s and one top-15 finish last season.
