Li, U.S.Finish Second at Toyota Junior Golf World Cup

JAPAN – Following four days of action in Japan, Duke women’s golf incoming freshman Katie Li and the United States squad placed second in the 2023 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup, which was played at the Shukyo Golf Club Ishino Course.

The United States turned in rounds of 139, 131, 139 and 135 to finish with a 32-under-par, 544, two strokes behind Japan (542).  On the final day, the U.S. posted a team-best 9-under-par ledger to try to stage a comeback, but fell just short.

Li, who hails from Basking Ridge, N.J., carded rounds of 73, 68, 71 and 67 to finish with a 5-under, 279, to place eighth overall in the individual action.  Yuna Araki of Japan finished with medalist honors as she registered a 15-under, 273.

Over the 72 holes, Li finished with two eagles, 14 birdies and 47 pars.  Her two eagles were tied for the most in the field, while she was tied for second with a 7-under score on par-5 holes.  Li played her final 14 holes in Friday’s final round at 5-under-par with three birdies and an eagle on No. 13.

Li will return to the United States and next compete in the Polo Junior Golf Classic, which will take place June 27-30 at Bethpage State Park Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.
