DURHAM – A pair of Duke women’s golfers will compete this week in two different tournaments as junior Rylie Heflin and freshman Katie Li tee it up in the Women’s Western Amateur and the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, respectively.
Heflin, who hails from Avondale, Pa., will travel to Naperville, Ill., to see action in the 123rd Women’s Western Amateur Championship at the White Eagle Golf Club. A maximum of 120 golfers will compete with 36 holes of stroke play qualifying July 18-19 with the top-32 heading to match play July 20-22.
Duke has three different alumnae that have taken home the Women’s Western Amateur – Sarah LeBrun Ingram (1991), Stephanie Sparks (1993) and Brittany Lang (2003).
A native of Basking Ridge, N.J., Li heads to Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete in the 74th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at the Eisenhower Golf Club July 18-22. It will feature a field of 156 golfers with 36 holes of stroke play qualifying taking place July 17-18. The top 64 golfers then head to match play July 19-22.
Li advanced to the semifinals in 2021 and round of 32 in 2022.
Fans can watch the U.S. Girls’ action July 21-22 via Peacock (semifinal/final matches from 5-7 p.m.) and Golf Channel (from 8-10 p.m., tape delay). Li will open action on Monday beginning at 9:22 a.m. (ET) off hole No. 10.
Duke has four golfers win the U.S. Girls’ Junior – Erica Shepherd (2017), Leigh Anne Hardin (1998), Beth Bauer (1997) and Jamie Koizumi (1992).
