Bulldogs Reveal 2023-24 Schedule Full Of Opportunity

STARKVILLE – Coming of its fourth NCAA Championships appearance, the Mississippi State men’s golf team will face a schedule in 2023-24 that will offer some unique travel opportunities while facing competitive fields that will prepare it for a return to the national stage.

This fall the Bulldogs will play in four events hosted by SEC foes before capping the fall slate with a trip to Hawaii. The season opens on Sept. 8-10 in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate hosted by the Volunteers. From there, all 14 SEC programs will meet in Birmingham, Alabama, for the third annual SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate. Last season, State played a competitive match with eventual national champion Florida, before falling, 3-2.

State’s men and women will again compete side-by-side at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Oct. 2-4. The event features 54 holes of stroke play, but it also names a men’s and women’s mixed team champion and a mixed pairs best ball title. MSU’s Julia Lopez Ramirez and William Wann won the best ball competition last fall. All three days of the tournament will be broadcast live on the GOLF Channel.

The fall schedule concludes with the Fallen Oak Invitational – co-hosted by MSU, Ole Miss and Southern Miss in Biloxi, Mississippi – and the Kapolei Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Fallen Oak Invitational (Oct. 15-17) will welcome a field of 12 teams, 11 of which were represented in the 2023 NCAA Regionals either as a team or by at least one individual. The Kapolei Invitational (Oct. 31-Nov. 2) will mark MSU’s first trip to the Hawaiian islands since the 2013 Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational where the Bulldogs finished third.

“We are very pleased with our 2023-2024 golf schedule this year. It is always our goal to play in events that will prepare us for Championship season,” head coach Dusty Smith said. “We have added several new events to the slate so I look forward to exposing our team to different events that will ultimately help us grow as the year progresses.”

The Bulldogs return to spring action on Feb. 19-21 at the Watersound Invitational hosted by Florida State in Panama City Beach, Florida. State finished in the top…
