Cats Remain in Team and Player Title Hunt at Folds of Honor

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – No. 19 Arizona Men’s Golf posted a strong finish on a windy day to remain in second place after the first two days of the Folds of Honor Collegiate. The Wildcats were powered by sophomore Filip Jakubcik’s even par round of 71 in Tuesday’s second round at American Dunes Golf Club. The five-man Arizona lineup posted clean scores on the final four holes of the day, finishing its homestretch with just two bogeys.

“I am really proud of our guys today who grinded through a windy day,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “Overcoming difficult holes in the middle of the round to finish on a high note really shows the maturation of our team. Kudos to Filip on carding our lowest round today, which put him in the top five of the leaderboards going into tomorrow’s final round. We are in a great position as a team for Wednesday’s finale to make some noise and try to finish off what we started here in Michigan.”

Arizona was 6-over on the day, which was the third-lowest score of the field as 14 teams shot 10-over or worse. The Wildcats were lights out on the course’s par 3’s on Wednesday with four birdies as they ascended into first place in par-3 scoring for the tournament. Jakubcik sits in a tie for third place in par-3 scoring to lead all Cats.

Coach Anderson and the Wildcats will be paired with tournament leader Michigan State on Wednesday who shot 5-under today to take a three-stroke lead over Arizona. South Carolina is tied with Arizona for second place at 5-over after leading the field on Monday.

Due to inclement weather in the forecast on Wednesday, the Folds of Honor Collegiate will push its final round up on Wednesday to 5:30 a.m. (MST) with Arizona teeing off at 7:10 a.m. alongside the Spartans and Gamecocks.
