Virginia Men's Golf | Hoos Open Fall Season at Valero Texas Collegiate

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 16 Virginia men’s golf team opens its season this Saturday-Monday, Sept. 9-11, at the Valero Texas Collegiate at the par-72, 7,050-yard TPC San Antonio, Texas. That is the site for the PGATour’s Valero Texas Open.

The 12-team field for the tournament includes Baylor, FGCU, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Liberty, Louisville, Oklahoma, LSU, TCU, UTSA and Vanderbilt.

Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.

The field will play 18 holes each day with tee times starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday.

The individual medalist will earn an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s 2024 Valero Texas Open, which is played annually on the same course.

The Cavaliers are coming off a highly successful 2022-23 campaing that saw UVA reach match play at the NCAA Championships before being eliminated by eventual national champion Florida. Ben James was named the Phil Mickelson Award winner as the nation’s top freshman. He was also the ACC freshman of the year, earned first-team All-America honors and finished sixth at the NCAA Championships.

After helping the USGA 10-man team win the Walker Cup last weekend, James will not compete at this weekend’s tournament.

The Cavalier lineup will feature Grayson Wotnosky, Bryan Lee, Paul Chang, Devel Patel and Josh Duangmanee. Henry Daly will compete as an individual UVA will be paired with Louisville and Georgia Southern for Saturday’s opening round. Those teams tee off starting at 10 a.m. CT from the 10th tee.

Daly, Chang and Duangmanee will all being making their UVA debuts. Daly transferred to the Cavalier program from Rice, Chang joined the varsity squad this fall after competing for the UVA Club Golf team the past two years and Duangmanee is a first-year at UVA.

Chang appeared in two USGA championship events this year. He competed in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball tournament and the U.S. Amateur Championship where he reached the round of 16 in match play.
