Virginia Men's Golf | Hoos Open Valero Texas Collegiate in Fifth Place

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The No. 16 Virginia men’s golf team opened its fall campaign by finishing the first round of the Texas Valero Collegiate in ninth place. The three-day event is taking place at TPC San Antonio Oaks in San Antonio, Texas.

The Cavaliers shot even-par 288 and were led by sophomore Bryan Lee’s opening round performance of 1-under 71. He finished the day in ninth place. Deven Patel and Grayson Watnosky both shot even par for Virginia and are in 14th place. Paul Chang, making his collegiate debut, was 25th at 1-over 73. First-year Josh Duangmanee rounded out UVA’s team scoring with a 75. He is in 42nd position after the open 18 holes.

Rice transfer Henry Daly is competing as an individual at the event. He shot 79 and is in 67th place. Vanderbilt leads the 12-team field after the opening day at 5-under 283. Oklahoma’s Stephen Campbell Jr. tops the individual field after shooting 4-under 68.

The Cavaliers will be paired up with Louisville and Georgia Southern for Sunday’s second round. Those teams start play from the 10th hole at 10 a.m.

UVA is playing without Ben James during the event. James competed in the Walker Cup last weekend, helping Team USA to victory.
